To know more about our city, visit the website:  "Turizmus Zirc - a Bakony fővárosa" !

The town is the highest-ranking urban settlement in Hungary. The villages of Akli, Kardosrét, Szarvaskút, and Tündérmajor also belong to the town. The first written mention of the town dates back to 1199, where it is referred to as Siric. The symbol of the town is the Cistercian Abbey of Zirc, which was built between 1737 and 1752. Other attractions include the Zirc Arboretum, the Cistercian Abbey, the Cistercian Monument Library of the National Széchényi Library, the Natural History Museum, and the Reguly Antal Museum.

The picturesque little town is located in the Old Bakony Mountains, in the Zirc Basin, on the banks of the Cuha Stream. It is 25 km from Veszprém, 30 km north of the northeastern corner of Lake Balaton, about 45 km east of Pápa and 57 km south of Győr. It is the highest town in Hungary (the town center is 400 meters above sea level).

In 2024, it had a population of 6,417.
